Kidney Problems

What are the kidneys?

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs each about the size of a fist situated at the back of the abdomen (tummy) under the ribcage.

The functions of the kidneys include:

  • Getting rid of waste substances from the blood.

  • Balancing the level of salt and certain chemicals in the blood.

  • Regulating the body's fluid balance and blood pressure.

  • Producing certain hormones.
