What is the prostate?
The prostate is a small chestnut size gland lies just underneath the bladder in men. The urethra (water pipe) runs through the middle of the prostate. The back of the prostate can be felt through the rectum (back passage).
The main function of the prostate is the production of a thick fluid containing chemicals which nourish the sperms. The prostate is also produces a protein called Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA).
